An Update from the President

ImageSarah Snyder, President here. I wanted to take some time to share some updates about the Rotaract KC club as we approach the end of the year. I look forward to finishing this year out strong with hearts to serve others in this holiday season and a growing membership while we build, belong and branch out.

We had our 1st Anniversary Party last week and it was a great success! Held at The Dubliner, we had many new faces in addition to our members. Great food, drinks and conversations made for a special night in celebration of the past year. We hope to see many of our guests back for a future meeting or service event. Thank you to all who attended!

Our November board meeting revealed a plan for elections. We will be announcing the available positions and details in the coming weeks. Please start considering a role of leadership and what you would be interested in contributing to the club. I’m sure any board member or committee chair would be more than happy to talk to you about the roles and responsibilities of being in a position, so ask any of us. We will also be looking for a slate committee – if you are interested and don’t plan to run for a position, please let us know.

The committee running the fundraising for the Rotary International Convention in 2014 in Sydney, Australia has decided to run one big event to fund-raise for the year. They are planning a social and charitable event for the spring in 2014. Stay tuned for details. If you’re interested in going to the RI Convention and have not applied, please contact Jeff Dutzel at rotaractkc@gmail.com.

Project Homeless Connect KC continues to plan for the big event next fall. PHC KC will help homeless individuals move their lives forward by facilitating long-term relationships with the existing service providers in Kansas City in a one-day, central event to bring them all together. Read about the original Project Homeless at www.projecthomelessconnect.com. The committee is currently looking for a venue, funders and partners to help make the event a success. If you are interested in helping plan the event, please contact Sarah Snyder to join the committee.

Rotaract KC would like to find a new venue for monthly meetings in 2014. If you have a suggestion of a venue, please let us know by emailing info@rotaractkc.com.

Lastly, I am travelling to Taipei, Taiwan for the next week. I arrived on Friday, November 15. I’ve made contact with the Rotaract Taipei chapter, one of the biggest chapters, and we are planning to meet and exchange ideas. I want to know from you for our meeting (comment below):

  • What questions do you have for a successful Rotaract Chapter?
  • What ideas do you have to possibly collaborate?
