Happy #MemberMonday, all! This week, we’re getting to know club president, Katie McCalla.
Member Name: Katie McCalla
Katie is the Rotaract KC President and has a passion for all things Rotary. Read on!
What do you do for a living? I am a waitress and barista at Cafe Europa Union Hill.
What are you passionate about? I am extremely passionate about service, spending over 400 hours a year volunteering for various agencies, events, summer camps and festivals around town. Find me slinging drink tokens at Boulevardia, coming up in June!
My favorite volunteer position has got to be working with Girls Can Camp, a summer camp for girls with disabilities. I am my happiest self when I am there.
What are your hobbies? My hobbies are all over the spectrum! On my day off I can likely be found with a sewing needle or hot glue gun in my hand, making some silly craft. I might also be found with my hands in the dirt, gardening or tending to over 25 house plants and succulents – my babies! For downtime, I enjoy camping, hiking and canoeing. My favorite hobby, however, has got to be cooking, getting creative in the kitchen and throwing dinner parties for friends and family.
What is your hometown? I was bread and buttered in Kansas City, Missouri! KC through and through!
What’s one factoid about you we probably don’t know yet? One factoid you probably wouldn’t know is that I raise lizards! I recently rescued two bearded dragons, Cash and Dolly.
Why did you join Rotaract KC? My favorite place on earth is the Rotary Youth Camp. I joined Rotaract KC because I wanted to share the mission of Rotary with others and encourage other young people to consider Rotary. I have seen first hand the positive impact Rotary has had on young peoples’ lives. I wanted to be a part of that.
Rotaract KC has become like a little family. I love the relationships all of us have built through Rotaract and have made friends who I might not have ever met!
